In 1889, 25-year-old journalist Nellie Bly, inspired by Jules Verne novel 'Around the World in 80 Days,' was determined to travel the globe in less time. She began her trip on November 14, 1889, from Hoboken, New Jersey, and, journeying by any transportation means available, she arrived back in New York in 72 days.
