Pledge of Allegiance

It was October 12, 1892, when Americans first stood and said the “Pledge of Allegiance”. It was written by Francis Bellamy, a writer for The Youth’s Companion children’s magazine. The oath was designed to reawaken a national “Americanism.” The original 22-word pledge has been rewritten several times. The most controversial change happened in 1954 when President Eisenhower approved the addition of the phrase “under God.”
